The F.M. Kirby Research Center is a dedicated brain research facility employing functional MRI (fMRI) technologies.  Occupying over three thousand square feet of ground level space in Baltimore's Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI), the Kirby Center stands as a resource to the research community.  The primary goal is to provide state-of-the-art technology and, through collaborations with neuroscientists and medical specialist, to develop new methods for the study of brain function.

The Center is physically located in the Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI), headed by Dr. Gary Goldstein (President).  The center was opened in May, 1999.  Startup funds were donated by the F.M. Kirby Foundation and the federal government.  The center was bolstered by the support of Dr. Elias Zerhouni, Chairman of the Department of Radiology at Johns Hopkins University Medical School.  To forge this  collaboration, a Department of Radiology was established within KKI with Dr. Zerhouni, Chairman.
