Application Procedures

Prospective users of the Kirby Center resources are invited to contact the Center to discuss research plans and resource requirements.
Researchers experienced in Functional Imaging and the associated equipment operation, will be asked to submit an resource utilization form to the Center Manager.  All requests will be reviewed at the next Protocol Review Committee (PRC) meeting.  After being approved by the PRC, those studies that involve human subjects must also receive advance approval by the Johns Hopkins
Medicine Institutional Review Boards (JHM-IRB).

Researchers with less experience in functional Imaging and the associated technologies are encouraged to contact the manager of the Center.  The Center is organized to provide information and training to support the development of functional imaging research plans to all interested researchers.  The Center is dedicated to fostering collaborative partnerships between interested scientists with varied expertise in brain research.

For researchers new to functional imaging, a meeting will be arranged between the potential applicants and facility staff to formulate a research and training program to match their individual needs.  If appropriate, collaborative arrangements can be made with faculty staff and/or interested scientists to assist in the preparation of human IRB protocols and experimental design.

Time Allocation

Once a project is approved through the Center's Protocol Review Committee, instrument time will be allocated according to system demand.  Priority is given to NIH grant awardees.  Also, pilot time may be requested from the Center for exploratory work in developing feasibility data to support future proposals for NIH sponsored research.
